Nashville native Bobby Bare Jr. has built a career that reads like a musical version of Forrest Gump, defined by an unusual series of historical intersections, collaborative projects, and distinct personal milestones.

His career began at age eight when he recorded a number one country duet written by Shel Silverstein "Daddy What If" with his father, country singer and country music hall of fame member Bobby Bare Sr. The track earned a Grammy nomination, breaking Michael Jackson’s record for the youngest nominee in history—an achievement Bobby notes makes him better than the King of Pop in every way. Raised in the Nashville music scene, he grew up surrounded by family friends like Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed, and Kris Kristofferson. He lived next door to George Jones and Tammy Wynette, though they never went camping or played golf together. Crucially, in the 90's his early songwriting was critiqued by Shel Silverstein, helping him develop a lyrical style that balances humor, pain, and anger.

Bobby’s career path has spanned several distinct eras and genres. In the summer of 1985, he worked as a train engineer at Opryland USA. By the late 1990s, he emerged as the frontman for the rock band Bare Jr., releasing two albums on Immortal/Epic Records as label mates with Korn and Incubus.

The longest stretch of his career began in 2001, dedicated to creating acclaimed alt-country indie albums for Bloodshot Records. Alongside his solo work, he has remained a versatile collaborator across the indie and alternative rock scenes. Bobby sang background vocals on the Silver Jews' track “Getting Back into Getting Back Into You.” He later transitioned into production, co-producing his father’s album The Moon Was Blue with Mark Nevers, as well as the 2010 tribute compilation Twistable, Turnable Man: A Tribute to Shel Silverstein. Since 2016, he has been a touring guitarist and backing vocalist for Guided by Voices. He is also currently co-writing and producing material with Frank Black of The Pixies for an upcoming album.

Bobby is now preparing for a drums and guitar rock duo tour playing his new and old songs.
